COURSE DESIGN

The Seventh Emergencies in Head and Neck Surgery Simulation Course (23 March 2017). This one-day course features immersive simulations in a dedicated facility. Simulations are accompanied by seminars and group feedback. The focus of this course is on patient safety during ENT emergencies, rather than operative technique or clinical knowledge (though some technical aspects will be covered). Topics include: avoidable error; communication techniques during emergencies; good leadership and good followership.

Immersive simulations involve one or two attendees, acting in their current capacity (ie CT2 as CT2), placed in common and important ENT emergency situations. There will be professional facilitators playing the roles of other members of the healthcare team. There is training and feedback after each simulation session.

This course has previously counted as an ENT 'craft' course at ST3 national selection.

Aimed at CT1 to ST8 doctors and Peri-CCT Fellows.

The course is limited to 8 candidates and 4 observers.
